Leadership & Performance Coaching

I work with leaders in sport and business, giving them time away from the day-to-day to think, talk through challenges and better understand how they lead themselves and others.
About Leadership & Performance Coaching

How you lead didn’t happen by accident.

I work with Sport Leaders and Business Leaders. I look at leadership through the lens of people. If we don’t have people, we don’t have teams or businesses.

How we respond to pressure, decisions we make, habits we repeat are all shaped by our experiences, the leaders we have worked for, the cultures we have worked in, and the things we have been rewarded for throughout our career. Many of our patterns happen automatically.

Our beliefs, values and behaviours do not exist in a vacuum. They have all come from somewhere. We have to understand why we react well or not so well when under pressure.

  • But where have these behaviours come from?
  • What will I keep as a behavior and what will I let go off?
  • Which behaviours are serving me well and which are not?
who i work with

Leadership looks different in every environment.

I work primarily with leaders in sport and business. The environments are different, but many of the challenges around people, pressure, decision-making and performance are shared.

As a leader in sport, much of your time is spent thinking about other people — players, staff, performance and results. Coaching gives you the opportunity to step away from that environment and focus on how you are operating as a leader.

  • Head Coaches,
  • Managers and
  • others responsible for leading people and performance in sport.

When leading in business your time is spent managing many others, your team, customers, performance and results. Coaching gives you the space to step away from the day-to-day and consider how you are leading within it.

  • SME Business Owners/CEOs,
  • General Managers and
  • others responsible for leading people and performance in business.

What we can work on.

Leadership is shaped by more than your role or job title. Together, we can look at how you lead, what has shaped your approach, the environment you create and how you adapt to the people around you.

Self-Awareness

You as a Leader

  • Raising your self-awareness will help you understand your leadership patterns, where they have come from, and how you lead.
  • It is not about fixing you but understanding the patterns you already have and learn how to create more choice on how you lead – self-awareness creates this choice.
  •  Self-awareness is not a personality trait. It is a performance skill. It is the ability to notice your own state as it shifts.
Leadership Identity

What Shapes Your Leadership

  • This can feel very natural and very consistent, but it was learned. What is learned can be examined.
  • Here we look at the factors that have shaped your leadership style. From career defining moments to personal values.
  • Your leadership identity can be shaped by how people see you. Most leaders judge themselves by their intent. However, leadership is not experienced at a level of intent. It is experienced at levels of behavior and it’s your behavior that creates impact. The impact is what people feel, what they remember, and what shapes your reputation.
LEADERSHIP ENVIRONMENT

The Environment You Create

  • The external environment will influence how we show up much more than what is written on a piece of paper.
  • People will adjust to the system and the acceptable patterns. The key for the leader is to optimize the system so that people can perform rather than just rely on good people. Employees naturally gravitate to the social norms.
  • The lived realities of the team are more powerful than any official company handbook. Learn more about fundamental attribution error, an example being – blaming the person because they are visible and loud but ignoring the system because it is hidden and silent.
ADAPTING TO OTHERS

How You Lead Different People

  • Leadership is not just about what you do; it is about how you interpret other people’s behavior, especially under pressure.
  • People differ in how they process information, how they socially engage, and how they make decisions.
  • What is your preferred communication style? Does it increase openness or defensiveness? Does it land well or does it alienate the people you are leading? Do you lead to your own natural preferences around pace, directness and decision?
